01 · Brief
Fresh food usually travels a long way to reach a city, and it only grows when the weather lets it. LEAF is an automated indoor farm designed as one whole: the building, the growing, the machines and the software planned together from the first sketch, instead of bought separately and made to fit later.
- system: carriers, growing, robots, utilities and software, engineered together
- 1
- crop carrier tracked: where it is, what it needs, what happened to it
- Every
- numbers published before they’ve been measured
- 0
02
Move the crop, not the people
In LEAF the plants do the travelling. They move on their own from one stage to the next, arriving just when they’re needed, while people do the skilled work around them. Wherever a crop is, the farm gives it the right light, water, nutrients and air.
- 01Plants carried from seeding to harvest to packing
- 02Light, water and air set by the farm, not by the season
- 03Machines for the repetitive work, people where judgement matters
03
Automation with memory
The farm remembers every crop carrier: where it is, what it needs and everything that has happened to it. So when something stops, it knows exactly what’s true on the floor and can pick up again safely. Planning for things going wrong is part of the design from the start, not an afterthought.
04
Walked before it’s built
The whole farm exists first as a 3D model you can walk through, with its machines, its people and its plants going about a working day, season after season. It’s where ideas get tested, breakdowns get rehearsed and decisions get argued, long before anything is built.
- 01A working day, played out in real time
- 02Practice runs for when something stops
- 03Every figure marked as drawn, imagined or measured

In private research. The final machine isn’t chosen yet, on purpose: the hard parts get proven first. More once it’s ready to announce.
